Netherlands
π World Cup Story
No nation has reached more World Cup finals without winning one than the Netherlands β three finals (1974, 1978, 2010) and zero titles. The 1974 team, led by Johan Cruyff and playing "Total Football," is considered by many the greatest team never to win a World Cup β they lost the final to West Germany in Munich. Their 1978 runners-up finish came without Cruyff (who refused to travel citing political reasons). In 2010 in South Africa, they reached the final again, losing to Spain 1-0 in extra time in one of history's most controversial finals. In 2022 they reached the quarterfinals before losing to Argentina. Their current squad β van Dijk, Gakpo, De Jong, Simons β is deep and talented. The quest to finally claim that elusive first world title continues.
π 2026 Context
