Ghana
🌍 World Cup Story
Ghana became the third African nation to reach a World Cup quarterfinal in 2010 in South Africa — and came agonisingly close to the semifinals. In the last minute of extra time against Uruguay, Luis Suárez deliberately handled the ball on the line to deny a goal; he was sent off, but Asamoah Gyan blazed the resulting penalty over the bar. Uruguay won on penalties. It remains one of the most controversial moments in World Cup history. Ghana had also impressed in 2006, reaching the round of 16. They exited in the group stage in 2022 despite beating South Korea. Mohammed Kudus (West Ham) is a hugely exciting talent; Thomas Partey brings Premier League experience; Iñaki Williams (Athletic Bilbao) — born in Spain of Ghanaian parents — chose to represent Ghana after representing Spain at youth level.
📌 2026 Context
The Black Stars — Africa's nearly-men of the World Cup, still haunted by Suárez's handball, hungry to recapture 2010 magic.
