Curaçao
🌍 World Cup Story
Curaçao is a Dutch Caribbean island in the southern Caribbean Sea, a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. With a population of approximately 150,000, they are the smallest nation by population ever to qualify for a World Cup. Previously known as the Netherlands Antilles, Curaçao became an independent FIFA member in 2010 after the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved. Their rapid rise through CONCACAF — reaching the Gold Cup quarterfinals — is one of football's most remarkable development stories. Their squad draws heavily on players born in the Netherlands (Dutch-Antillean heritage) who chose to represent the island. Veteran coach Dick Advocaat, who managed Russia, South Korea, and multiple top clubs, came out of retirement to guide them to this historic moment.
